About Karen’s recent work:
The Secrets of the Snow Queen an Eco Tale, written by Ruth Matlow Asher, is illustrated by Manitoba Craft Council member Karen Wardle. The works is this First Friday exhibition are a selection of pieces that were used in the book. While much of the detail is created by painting, textural detail was an important element in developing the images. Karen has used lace, hand and machine stitching, new and recycled fabrics and hand dyed, hand painted fabric in her collaged images to create a unique style to illustrate a story.
Karen Wardle is a Winnipeg based fibre artist and painter. Her work has been exhibited in group and solo shows across Canada. She has received grants from the Manitoba Arts Council and participated in the Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art foundation advisory program 2003-2004.
First Fridays in the Exchange is dedicated to bringing together artists, artist run centres, galleries, businesses and the public for a greater understanding, appreciation and promotion of the arts and the further development of a vital Exchange Area community. See the full listings here.
